Today's post

This morning while I was checking the hockey news (both Wisconsin and UMD lost!?!) I started to get pop ups and unauthorized IE pages opening (mostly to porn). Over the course of the next several hours I eventually determined that I am infected with what is probably the FakeAlert-GA virus (better than H1N1 I suppose).

I was getting pretty discouraged but then raking broke out as reported elsewhere on the "tubes". After raking I spent an hour or so on the phone to India with the McAfee customer service guy before eventually determining that they can't help me. He recommended contacting the manufacturer.

Well, all the manufacturer could do would be reinstall the operating system. I looked and I have the discs so I can do that myself.

I have been to Best Buy to purchase an external hard drive to back up all of my stuff (the computer still works, it is just plagued by pop ups and porn pages). Just now I am on the professor's work station. Probably tomorrow morning I will be reinstalling the operating system for my usual computer with all of the major hassles that entails.

So no cheerful bicycling episodes today, and probably more grumbling tomorrow. Back up the stuff that you don't want to lose, it can happen to you.

My sympathies. Best of luck.

Not that this is an any way related, nor does it have to be, but...We caught one heck of a virus, and I am convinced it came from BikesnobNYC.com. Painful as it is, I have since stopped visiting for about 2-3 months and haven't had an issue. Coincidence?? dunno. Good luck with all that, ick.
