OK, I'll try that

I read the recipe and there were steps I was just uncomfortable trying without ever having had the opportunity to witness them being done by someone with experience.

I certainly remember having the potatoes but during the time when they regularly appeared on our table I was never sufficiently far advanced up the food preparation chain to actually participate in preparation.

So I went to the internet and found a pretty detailed recipe on the Food Network.  The issue for me was the butter, milk, flour mixture.  The Food Network refers to that as preparation of the white sauce.

Yeah, right.  White sauce.

But I guess a white sauce is what it is and the rest of preparation went pretty much as described.
We had ours with green beans as the "serve with something green" green.

Tasty.

Mott the Hoople

Kudos to the guitar guy at the plant.

I knew that I really, really liked All the Young Dudes as recorded by Mott the Hoople.

Mike knew that the song was actually a David Bowie composition.

All the young dudes.
Carry the news.
Boogaloo dudes.

Yeah, you in the back
With the Saint George t-shirt.

Frozen tundra

The national sporting press is all in a buzz over the possibility of temperatures near zero degrees Fahrenheit for the extremely important football scheduled to occur on Sunday here at 45 degrees north latitude.

Maybe.  Maybe even probably.  If it does come it is going to have to come later because it isn't here yet.

Today was mostly a continuation of the extended period of high temperatures near and trending towards slightly above zero degrees Celsius (science alert).  We had some overnight flurries for the second night in a row, the accumulation from two days apparently reached two inches and in response public works came out and plowed.

It wasn't much snow, I might have just left it if not for the plowing.  But if there is plowing it is necessary to deal with the mess at the end of the driveway so I went out and shoved snow over to the side and then used a lighter shovel to hoist the flotsam up and over the edge and onto the snow pile.

Later on after my walk I noticed that the bits down at the end which have been consistently freeze packed to the driveway for a month or so now appeared to be of a consistency which would lend itself to removal.

It is extremely unusual for me to get back to bare driveway ever, EVER, after the first time each winter when the newspaper delivery person drives on a couple of inches of snow on the driveway.  Usually the return to bare driveway is a fairly big deal for me sometime during the February and or March thaw.
There's my driveway on January 8.

People who know these things will know that a house on the south side of the street with a north facing driveway presents much more difficult snow issues.  People who live on the north side with a south facing driveway often have to do very little or nothing at all to get back to bare pavement.

Today I am at bare pavement, my neighbor across the street is snow covered.

Not to worry, they will be bare again soon.

I will not be driveway bare again almost certainly until that late winter thaw thing.

So, today was a fun day for me here on the frozen tundra.

Wisconsin taxpayer

I think this gives me the right to voice an opinion on political issues in Wisconsin.
So, my opinion on political issues in Wisconsin is . . .

*pause*

Well, I don't much care for the current Governor but I suspect the people who actually live in Wisconsin and have a right to vote in gubernatorial elections will work that out.  If they don't?

*pause*

The nice thing about being a taxpayer in Wisconsin is that I have the right to make 52 deposits at the Oakland trash collection center during 2016.  Looking at that blue card it seems to me that they probably punch it when you make a drop off.

Imagine that if you will, a really, really old school technology in 2016, a paper punch to record your trash collection.

I like it.

I pay taxes in Wisconsin.
